TURNING HUNGER INTO HOPE, ONE BACKPACK AT A TIME
Impact is driven by a passion to end childhood hunger. We are passionate in our belief that no child should ever have to experience hunger and all the negative effects that accompany it. We are fueled by a vision to sustain a Backpack Program that will offer families support to help their children grow and thrive. In Letcher County, 3 out of 4 children in our public schools are not getting sufficient, healthy food on a regular basis outside of school. At Impact, we work to fill that gap by providing a Backpack Program with nutritious, child-friendly food for school children to take home over the weekend.
With the Backpack Program, food is placed directly into the hands of at-risk children who desperately need it. School staff, teachers, and counselors identify and recommend children that they feel are not getting enough food at home. Backpacks are distributed weekly to students through the schools, as they have a relationship with students, easy access, and a safe environment. Bags are packed each week by school staff and discreetly distributed to participating children every Friday afternoon.

Shoes 4 schools

Shoes 4 Schools was birthed in 2011. Mistie Johnson, of Ignite Ministries, had taken her child to school. There she saw one of her son's classmates wearing shoes held together by duct tape. Her heart broke for the child, knowing the family most likely could not afford a new pair of shoes. That day, within herself, she vowed to somehow do something! After much prayer, God formed a vision in her for Shoes 4 Schools. S4S works with the local schools of Letcher County to insure shoes are distributed into the hands of the children who need them. This program has purchased over 2,000 pairs of shoes to date.
